A Review of Gran Torino by in2it.sg

torino_posterIt may be apt that for all the trouble that seems to besiege the United States now, especially for the automotive industry, Gran Torino places a stamp of Made in the USA like no other. A former auto worker at Ford, Walt has just put his longtime wife in the ground when the story opens. From his scowl, it looks as if he would like to join her. Instead he stews by himself with his trusted, yellow Labrador, watching the world at a safe distance.

But the world refuses to leave him alone and the light-hearted moment creeps in when a family of Hmong immigrants, become his neighbours and stages a life changing home invasion.

In an industry that barely makes cars, in a city that seems to be desert city and in a country until too recently seems to have lost all hope, Hollywood offers us a glimmer of hope that sometimes old fashioned values still save the soul and the day.
