For the first time in over 13 years, I will make my way down to the Kallang National Stadium. Tonight, Singapore will take on Iran as they try to qualify for the 2011 Asian Cup Finals. While this game is crucial for Singapore's qualifying hopes, this is a game that few are expecting Singapore to win. The last time these two teams met in January, Iran destroyed the Singapore Lions 6 - 0. Currently, Singapore is placed 2nd in Group E, behind Iran, and ahead of Thailand and Jordan. With 4 games played, and 2 games remaining, Singapore has won 2, and lost 2 for a total of 6 points.

s2With veteran players, and heroes from the 2007 Asean Football Championship; such as current Lions captain Noh Alam Shah and striker Indra Sahdan getting on in age, this just might be their last major tournament. With this current team, Singapore's coach Radojko Avarmovic believes that Iran is Singapore's benchmark. "Playing against them (Iran) is a challenge for this generation to see where we stand."

It is crucial for the Singapore Lions to walk out of this match with a point. For the first time in Singapore's football history, this young team has a chance to qualify for the Asian Cup Finals. With 2 games remaining, Singapore must seize every opportunity they get.
