Zouk's 19th birthday Oscar style

Zouk's left nothing to chance and went all out as she celebrated her 19th birthday Oscar style. Patrons donned their Oscar worthy wear to attend the first ever Zouk Awards which was also held that night. The ceremony was in appreciation towards her loyal following and those who have help made Zouk one of the top 10 clubs in the world. I put on a simple black dress which I knew would never go wrong on the red carpet.

Many celebrities and invited guests walked the red carpet in the latest fashion while other patrons awaited entry next to it. However the wait was one filled with surprises, acquaintances only recognizable in Zouk but never outside of it or even that long lost friend. I for one met a friend who I haven't seen in months! Lining the red carpet were your familiar club photographers who had to maneuver their way through hundreds of people for their prized shots. To replicate Oscar's red carpet, there was a platform, sandwiched between the backdrop of Hollywood allure and bright camera lights, at the side which saw a lady interviewing guests as they entered.

As I entered, the bar was filled with patrons, people had crowd round the stage, all eagerly awaiting the start of the ceremony. The lights dimmed and a booming voice introduced the first segment of the night; out came six female dancers rigged in a neck full of colorful feathers. The magnificent colours of the feathers together with bright coloured leggings lit up the stage! After they had finished, the host for the night, MTV VJ Utt came on stage.

After a brief welcome message, Zouk Awards was now in full swing. The first award given out was the ‘Zouk Frontier Award' which was given to the most hard-working, dedicated and committed front-of-house staff. Auntie Ah Lan, Zouk's housekeeper took the award home with pride as she has probably seen every possible gross thing thrown up in the bathrooms. The second award given out was probably my favourite award; ‘Favourite Posion of the Year'. I was rooting for Jeagerbombs but the sour plum shots reigned victorious. To show their appreciation, Zouk sent out trays of the shots to guests in the front of the stage.

Other awards given out where for the favourite magazine/website, best midnight snack, Zouk's best entourage, chic clubber, favourite local act and to finish it off, favourite resident DJ which went to djB!
In between the award presentation, there was a dance item by a group of guys. But there were not just any other guys!

Decked out in aviator shades, leather jackets and black and white gloves, their sleek moves wow-ed everyone. Zouk's icon, ‘The Doc' proved that age was not going to stand in his way when it came to showing off dance moves. To me, ‘The Doc' is a true reflection of what music and dance is. Standing on that stage and dancing away without discrimination, I salute you.

With the crowds continuous cheering, Utt congratulated all the winners and declared the end of the Zouk Awards. To finish the award ceremony, Bloco Singapura was then invited on stage which saw models and dancers keeping up to their beats. The award ceremony sure put everyone in the mood for some hardcore partying.

Zouk, being one of the best clubs in the world foresaw this and invited one of electro music's big names. Fischerspooner played awesome tunes like Infinity which hyped up the crowd even more. The crowd was starting to move into the dance floor and work those bodies. Notoriously known for fusing fine art, pop culture and music, Fischerspooner did not disappoint.

It was a night full of amazing music tunes, shots of sour plum which allowed me to dance through the night. The sore feet and headache the next morning was definitely worth it. Thank you Zouk for inviting me along!
