Fashion Police of the WC

We all know David Beckham and Christiano Ronaldo all sport expensive and hippest clothes outside the field. What about on the field?

There is no better time for fashion to play a part in the world's most popular sport than the World Cup. With 3 billion pairs of eyes watching, designers of soccer wear look as this as a golden opportunity to show their work off. In the past, jerseys were mostly in primary or natural colours.

"Think of cannery yellow and leaf green of the Brazilian team, the fire engine red and yellow for Spain and the Atlantic blue and white of the French." (The New Paper June 19 2010)

However, some teams have chose to move away from the usual and invent a new look for themselves. Let's have a look at those fashionista teams!

Instead of adopting a safer shade of leaf green, Algerians chose a shade of pastel green. It sure caused some confusion as they were blending in with the field!

Talk about eating too much carrots or lying in a field of sunflowers. Made by Puma, their orange home jersey was labelled as 'too bright' and 'eye catching'. The extra body hugging jerseys stuck to their bodies, showing off every rippling muscle.

Sticking to safe colours, loose cut and a simple design made the players look like they were playing in their pyjamas! The oversized look also gave the players a very sloppy look, a startling contradiction from their leader, Kim Jong II's firm look.

They got the thumbs up from the fashion police with its dark green and zig zag pattern. Moving away from the conservative look, Slovenians managed to pull together a trendy look together with incorporating their pride for representing their country into it. It was by no accident that the pattern chosen was zig zag. They actually represented one of their countries famous icons, the Triglav Mountains.
