You are gravely wrong to think of Phuket as nothing more than a commercialised tourist trap; more than a beachcomber's paradise, barfly's perch and an entertainment hotspot.

The beautiful island screams for your attention from every corner. It is an island filled with plenty of fun and attractions for all to discover.

Phuket's endless stretch of powdery beaches, turquoise water, scorching sun and cool sea breeze remains as its main attraction for tourist to unwind. Usually sold out before the holiday season are the beachfront resorts along Phuket's famous Patong Beach. However, fret not about getting your ideal spot on that spectacular beach that stretches a long way.

Do not miss out Phuket's best attraction under water ‘world' at Phangnga Bay or the nearby Phi Phi Island. There is nothing to worry about non diver? There is a wide spread of dive school around the island, simply pop into one to master the basic of diving.

Take the alternative if you loathe the idea of diving, participating in snorkelling activities may be equally ideal for the less adventurous; as you get up close and personal with the colourful tropical fishes and coral reefs.

If you enjoy jungle trekking and hiking, be sure to head to Khao Phra Thaeo Wildlife Sanctuary to visit rare wildlife animals such as langurs, porcupines and macaques. Feel free to also enjoy a refreshing shower under the waterfalls at the adjacent Ton Sai Waterfall Forest Park.

Remember to take a walk in the old town where history seems alive, admire the Sino-Portuguese shophouses and Sino-Colonial mansions in the area as they reflect of European influenced on the island. Live the life of a local as you take a tea break in one of the old shophouse.

 Head to Krabi Road to steal a glimpse of Phra Pitak Chinpracha Mansion (private residence), known as the most beautiful home in Phuket. It is surely not going to hurt admiring the handsome building.

Last but not least, enjoy yourself at Phuket FantaSea, the theme park jam-packed with activities and entertainment for all ages. The theme park filled with amazing pyrotechnics combines in wacky costumes, trapeze artists, dancing elephants, carnivals, games and food will provide a great evening for all.

 Food

Thailand, renowned for its amazing cuisine and unique flavours is another reason for you to fall in love with Phuket. Who has not heard of the aromatic Tom Yam Goong and mouth-watering Pad Thai? While those are available in Phuket, the island is especially famous for its lip smacking seafood, which you will not have to empty your pockets to enjoy. Despite the countless restaurants, some of the finest meals can be found at hawker stalls located throughout the island.

You are to try the savoury Goong Preaw Wan (sweet and sour prawns) served with vegetables and pineapple sauce, and Gaeng Som (fish curry) served with plain rice. However, this may take you guts to consume as its spiciness level was way beyond me, alternatively, hold on to a glass of ice cold Thai Ice Tea to rescue your burning tongue.

When feeling peckish in-between meals, stop by any of the street vendors for fresh tropical fruits, juices, steamed groundnuts, sticky rice, ice creams or banana fritters. These are only awesome when you are in Thailand, Phuket itself.
