Chingay 2012

Chingay

Within the 40 years between its inauguration and this February’s parade, Chingay has transformed from a humble Chinese cultural showcase to an international display of Singapore’s multi-cultural values. This year’s parade promises to up the ante with bravura feats and striking visual effects on a 360m waterway. Featuring 8,000 volunteer performers from here and around the region, including Indonesia and Taiwan, Chingay 2012 will open with a hip hop dragon dance atop a beautifully lighted dragon float which will also be accompanied by a pair of flying dragons and phoenix from China. Other vignettes include an exhibition of Indian culture on a swan platform, ambitious bicycle stunts, a tai chi fan dance event staged by interest group members from several community clubs, as well as a synchronised Samba dance.
