Titanic: The Artifact Exhibition @ ArtScience Museum
The Titanic will mark its debut in Southeast Asia in Singapore this holiday season. Billed as the largest passenger liner of its time, the ship struck an iceberg on its maiden voyage and sank. Titanic: The Artifact Exhibition will recreate the timeless story behind the ill-fated ‘unsinkable’ ship, from its conceptualisation and construction to its passage, sinking and the discovery of its wreck. Your journey into the fable of Titanic will start with a replica boarding pass of an actual passenger onboard the ship which you will receive when you enter the exhibition. Once inside, you will get to explore the splendour of Titanic with faithful reconstructions of iconic structures like The Grand Staircase and the Verandah Café. Other exhibits like the models of a first class cabin (pictured) and third class cabin will allow you to learn more about the distinct social mores of the period. To ensure that your experience will be as authentic as possible, the exhibits will be adorned by some of the rarest recovered artifacts. If you are adventurous, do not hesitate to press your palms against the Iceberg Wall to feel the freezing temperature at which Titanic sank. Although the remains of Titanic stay anchored to the bottom of the North Atlantic Ocean to this day, you will be able to partake in the rescue efforts behind the artifacts by diving into the wreck of the ship – virtually, of course. Before leaving, do not forget to check the name of the passenger printed on your boarding pass against the names on the memorial wall to find out whether your passenger survived or perished. Titanic: The Artifact Exhibition at Marina Bay Sands’ ArtScience Museum will open on 29 October 2011 and end on 29 April 2012 to coincide with the 100th anniversary of the ship.
