Chinese people believe in a 12 year animal cycle with each animal representing a different set of character traits, much like the western astrological horoscope.

So what are some traits of those born in the year of the rabbit?

Well, Rabbits known to be artistic, compassionate and sensitive. Rabbits seldom lose their temper but because they are so serene, they tend to be taken advantage off. Rabbits are good companions because they are good listeners and know what to say to comfort you and dislike getting into arguments.

But don’t be fooled, despite his “switch rather than fight” style, Rabbits can be extremely cunning and ruthless when they put their mind to it. To outsiders Rabbits can seem indifferent, moody and distanced, but to their loved ones Rabbits know no bounds in going all the way to be tender and obliging.

The Chinese also went and complicated things a bit more by throwing in the 5 elements; Fire, Earth, Water, Metal and Wood, which went and added some other qualities to your already pre-destined personality.

What this means is that depending on the element you were born with, you could have a slightly different character set from the rest who have the same animal sign but a different element.

Metal Rabbits (1951 and 2011) are more intense in their actions, whether they’re work related or romantic as metal gives Rabbits more strength, resilience and determination.

Like the currents, Water Rabbits (1903 and 1963) prefer to go with the flow, avoiding conflict at all costs, even in situations that are bothersome. It’s easy to take advantage of Water Rabbits; they are very supportive of others.

Wood Rabbits (1915 and 1975) occupy their time doing for others; they always feel the need to make others content. This generosity is easy for others to take advantage of and sometimes Water Rabbits don’t even realize is happening.

Fire (1927 and 1987) adds spark to the Rabbit’s personality and all that Fire Rabbits do. Fire compels Rabbits to seek new adventures. Prone to tantrums, Fire Rabbits prefer to avoid conflict.

Earth Rabbits (1939 and 1999) are grounded in reality. Their advice can be harsh, but honest. Home life is important to Earth Rabbits as are money and material goods.

Rabbits are one of the most fortunate of the 12 signs and represent longevity. People born in this year are extremely lucky in business and monetary transactions. Rabbits also make good pairs with people born in the year of the Pig and Dog. They should avoid Roosters, as Roosters are their direct opposite.

The year of the Rabbit is traditionally associated with home and family, artistic pursuits, diplomacy, and keeping the peace. So 2011 will be relatively calmer than 2010 both on a global and personal level.
