Wardrobe Essentials for a Man
This has definitely happened to everyone once. And I don’t mean only on Chinese New Year!

Someone invites you to an event. Realizing you have nothing to wear, you go out and buy a whole new set of clothing. You don it once for the event, and that’s it! It’s banished into the back of your closet, never to be seen or heard from again.
Well, you’re in luck! in2it.sg is back with tips on how to make sure you have something for every event, from your girlfriend’s sister’s wedding to a holiday on the beach!
Absolute Must-haves:
| 1. Blue jeans |
 |
Timeless and unendingly versatile, a good pair of jeans will take you anywhere from a rock concert to a plane trip. Jeans have been around for decades, and we promise that they have never (ever!) gone out of style. Just make sure to find the right cut for your body- you don’t want to end up wearing a pair of jeans so baggy they resemble adult diapers. The best thing about jeans? They go with absolutely anything! |
| |
| 2. White collared shirts |
 |
When you go for shirts, make sure they’re simple and free of ruffles and whatnot- unless you’re going for an Elton John look. White collared shirts are classic, a staple in every man’s wardrobe. Wear them under suit jackets or with jeans of any colour. It’s foolproof! |
| |
| 3. A well-cut blazer |
 |
A solid-colour blazer is highly recommended in this case. Blazers or sport coats can immediately smarten up the most casual of t shirts and jeans combos. You can use them in various ensembles and situations, taking you from the office to out on a date in a jiffy! |
| |
| 4. Loafers |
 |
Classic! Loafers are wonderfully comfortable and fuss-free. Slip-on, slip-off; you’re good to go! Get a colour which goes with most pants you own. Furthermore, they can be worn with jeans, dress pants and even Bermudas as displayed by masculine fashionista Chuck Bass. |
| |
| 5. Fitted T shirts and polo shirts |
 |
They can be worn alone or layered under a blazer for a semi-formal look. Make sure they’re the right length- nobody likes to see your rear end on display! Oversized t shirts are okay for ladies, but you don’t want to look like you’re wearing a dress. And as for tucking them in- just don’t do it. |
| |
| 6. A simple black belt |
 |
It can be any material, but a simple belt keeps your jeans in that perfect low-riding spot. Belts are the staple for all outfits! It can pull an outfit together when done right. Pair it with your jeans or your suit pants for the office! |
| |
| 7. Dress pants |
 |
There will always be a relative’s wedding to attend, a funeral; a work-related function. For all these, pull out those dress pants. Make sure they’re ironed well, though- more than a few creases and you’re looking unfashionably rumpled. |
| |
| 8. A tie/bowtie |
 |
Unless you’re Italian, it’s never acceptable to don your suit and jacket sans tie. Bowties are for formal occasions, but you can mix it up a little by pairing it with suspenders and loafers. Keep it fun! |
| |
| 9. A cosy hoodie |
 |
Who doesn’t love hoodies? I myself have quite a number of them in a myriad of colours. Warm and functional, these babies will be perfect for your girl to snuggle into during a movie. (One hint: girls love boyfriend hoodies!) |
| |
| 10. Board shorts |
 |
Always have a pair of these stashed away in your closet. In sunny Singapore, there is a perpetual beach/pool party going on somewhere, and don’t be caught dead in your boxers! They’re also the only thing you wear on getaways to an island resort. Surf’s up! |
Have fun mixing these items up! You’ll never again agonize on what to wear to any occasion. You’re welcome.
