Through Asian Eyes, Past and Present

In January this year, Nikon Asia and Objectifs launched the exclusive Asian photography online exhibition headed “Through Asian Eyes”. They have released the second series, and prepare to be wowed as this edition features three new photographers from different parts of Asia, who have documented their perspectives in a most relatable form.

Who hasn’t visited a Pasat when they were young? We’ve all grown up on the smells, sights and tastes of a hawker centre, and continue to visit it to this day. Singaporean photographer Deanna Ng has documented a solo perspective of her own memories of the hawker centre and its various inhabitants, some of which have been there for decades.

Jakarta-based Indonesian photographer Ahmad Zamroni brings us the rich traditions of Indonesia’s many cultures. Histories and customs weave together in a tapestry that shows us that although they are different in so many ways, they can coexist peacefully.

Rahman Roslan, a Malaysian photographer based in Kuala Lumpur, records the tragic eruption of Mt Merapi in Indonesia, 2010. The raw emotions painted in his photography are real and they tell a story better than words ever could.

In addition to their online galleries, there is also a short biography of each photographer and an interview by Objectifs. If you’ve ever wondered what it takes to be a Nikon photographer, what they are inspired by or even what their own feelings were as they were taking the photograph, check out the website here.
