An Eruption of Flavours

Steakhouse_Burger_header

The modern fast food orthodoxy is quickly discarded as we lay our eyes on the new Steakhouse Burger from Carl’s Jr. With a hint of pride in her eyes, the manager shares with us the lofty inspiration behind this monster of a burger. With 80% of the ingredients used in the Steakhouse Burger sourced from the US, this latest offer from Carl’s Jr. easily matches the ambitions of an upmarket restaurant meal. There’s little to stop us from picking the huge burger up and shoving it into our mouths like what all greedy cartoon characters do when they see a cake – a 100% Certified Angus Beef patty with A.1. Steak Sauce, crumbled blue cheese, crispy onion strings, Swiss cheese, lettuce, tomatoes, mayonnaise and a fat seeded bun. We take a leap of faith to find out.

The result is an eruption of complementary flavours that immediately drives our taste buds into paroxysms of approval. We are impressed with the use of the less than common blue cheese which is crumbled over the Swiss cheese and juicy meat to introduce a dash of tartness to every bite. While the sweet A.1. Steak Sauce proves to be a strict contrast to this sour taste, both ingredients work well together to create a medley of flavours that do not overwhelm. The fried onion strings are a perfect accompaniment, adding a welcomed layer of crunch to an otherwise meaty texture. The texture in question here is the contribution of the premium Certified Angus Beef patty which is tender and not too gamey. The macerated lettuce, tomatoes and mayonnaise make up the usual condiments but we feel that the burger could do without the mayonnaise.

The Steakhouse Burger is now available at all Carl’s Jr. outlets in 3 variations: Single, Double and Thickburger. Get the Steakhouse Burger (Single) for $10.90 or add $3 to make it a Thickburger. Offer lasts till mid-January 2012. SAFRA members also get to enjoy 10% off all ala carte items!
