Staying sober

The standard question of - how long does it take to cure a hangover varies with different individual. The politically correct answer should be for as long as it takes to feel better. But how do you even start feeling better?

drunk-urinalWe suggest for you to have sufficient sleep after a long night, rest should be your best friend. Allow your body to recover from the excessive alcohol from the night before. It is best to stay in bed, so call in to work if you have to, and tell them that you are not feeling well. You will sound so horrible on the phone they may believe you (unless they saw you at the bar, not a good idea then).

Do remember to replenish your body with fruit juice (eg. Orange juice or Bloody Mary - tomato juice and celery for vitamins), water or sports drinks (eg.Gatorade or Powerade). Try to avoid caffeine, although a weak cup of coffee may be alright, but a lot of caffeine will continue to dehydrate you. Which is the opposite of what you want right now.

Do consume food rich in minerals like pickles or canned fish. Alternatively, eat crackers and honey, as honey is a very concentrated source of fructose, eating a little in the morning after is a way to help your body flush out remaining alcohol.

Go for a shower, switching between cold and hot water to ‘wake' yourself up. SPILL_BEER_MUGOr sweat it out by getting some exercise, such as jogging, swimming or cycling at your own pace.

Avoid taking aspirin or any form of painkillers to ease the pain. Aspirin which is similar to alcohol is a blood thinner that can intensify its effects, causing more damage to your liver. Thus, be cautious when going for quick relief.

All you need is a good shower, a bed and plenty of fluid at a peaceful and quiet place.

Specially dedicated to my friends, Daphne and Angel with love.
