With less than a week to go before Resorts World Sentosa (RWS) is set to stage the soft opening of its casino resort, on Singapore's Sentosa islet, there is a growing buzz in the air as the country anticipates the launch of the first of its two Integrated Resorts (IR). Resorts World Sentosa is slated to have its soft opening on January 20th 2010, with four of its hotels; Crockfords Tower, Festive Hotel, Hard Rock Hotel and Hotel Michael beginning operations. The plan is to open Universal Studios Singapore and the Casino in the following months.

Resorts World Sentosa is S$6.59 billion project developed by Genting International. RWS is a collection of resorts and attractions. When completed, RWS will feature; a Universal Studios theme park, The Marine Life Park, the world's largest oceanarium; six hotels offering a total of 1,840 rooms for accommodations, world class staged performances, and dozens of shopping and dining options at the Resort's FestiveWalk.

RWS is divided into three main zones, namely: Central, West and East. The Central Zone is home to three hotels; Hotel Michael, Festive Hotel, and Hard Rock Cafe Hotel. It also houses the Casino, as well as FestiveWalk; a collection of concept stores, luxurious dining, clubbing and non-gated entertainment, including roving acts and performances that feature lights, lasers, fire, water and special effects.

Over at the West Zone, The Marine Life Park is the Zone's main draw. Spanning at over 8 ha, it is the world's largest oceanarium, and home to over 700,000 varieties of marine animals. The Marine Life Park is accompanied by two other attractions; The Equarius Water Park, a water theme park with water rides, slides and pools and SPA Villas, a collection of villas floating on a lagoon, complimented by a wellness centre.

The East Zone is where you can find South East Asia's first and only Universal Studios theme park. The theme park features a total of 24 attractions, located in each of the seven uniquely themed zones, which are built encircling a lagoon. Each zone is modeled after an iconic location based on a Hollywood blockbuster movie or television show. Various dining and shopping options as well as character appearances will be incorporated into the various zones in conjunction with their themes.

This is a very exciting time for the residents of Singapore. With the launching of RWS, the world-class entertainment facilities that we have always been longing for is right at our door steps. However, time will only tell if the IR projects receive the international acknowledgment and support that it needs to be successful.
