The iPad: Worth the wait?



Are you in2 the Apple wave? Has Monday's news of the iPad being released tomorrow made you jumpy? Finally. At 1000 tomorrow morning when the doors of Apple retailers open, the iPad has landed into the hands of eager Singaporeans.

iPad critics will tell you, the iPad first arrived on planet Earth more than 2000 years ago when God gave Moses the tablet with the ten commandments on it, so the iPad is nothing new! Why all the fuss over it? Let us look at why consumers like I have become sucked into this Apple craze. Early this year, Steve Jobs wowed the world with the introduction of the iPad to the Apple family. Let's look at why this gadget is so magical.

LED-Backlit IPS Display

With a 9.7-inch LED-backlit IPS display, it's perfect for web browsing, watching movies, or viewing photos. It doesn't matter which way you look at your content, there's no up or down with the iPad. It's designed to show off your content in portrait or landscape orientation with every turn. Now for the IPS bit. IPS stands for in-plane switching which means you can hold the iPad at almost any angle and still get an excellent image with its wide, 178° viewing angle.

Multi-Touch

It's no different from the iPhone but its technology has been completely reengineered for the larger iPad surface, making it extremely precise and responsive. It doesn't matter if you're zooming in on the map or flicking through photos, the iPad responds with unbelievable accuracy.

Thin and Light

With a screen of only 9.7 inches measured diagonally, it's even smaller than a magazine! At just 1.5 pounds and 0.5 inches thin, you can use it anywhere. The slight curve at the back also makes it easy to pick up and comfortable to hold.

All hail Apple's engineers for coming up with this A4 chip. This chip has made the iPad powerful and power efficient. It is so power efficient that the iPad can last 10 hours on a single charge! From productivity apps to games, this chip has covered it all, giving iPad users their money worth. Now let's look at its competitors!

Many of these substitutes all boasts powerful technology and very responsive to touch. The Notion Ink Adam, created by Indian company Notion Ink combines the best of a full color multi-touch LCD display with a low-power reflective mode that makes it readable in direct sunlight. HP's Slate is set to run on Windows, differentiating itself from the Android pack.
