Ride the waves with in2it.sg
We here at in2it.sg are catching another ride on the waves of Sentosa’s Wavehouse this August. Coming to you on the 7th of August from 12pm to 6pm, is another installment to the FlowJam competition. This competition will see surfers battle it out the double FlowRider® which spills out aggressive 10-foot waves!

Located on the sandy beaches of Sentosa, Wave House Sentosa is the fourth and newest installation in an archipelago of Wave Houses that stretches from Durban in South Africa, San Diego in California, to Santiago in Chile. For all the surfers out there, Wavehouse Sentosa has brought those perfect and endless barrels to our sunny island. It is definitely a man made wonder worth competing to mother nature.
Tom Lochtefeld, the founder and CEO of Wave House (and a surfer himself), wanted to bring the feel of the wave inland hence he invented the FlowBarrel®. The sheet waves are produced when water flows at a high speed over this shaped surface, creating surf-worthy waves. The water flows at between 20 and 30 miles per hour, with as much as 100,000 gallons of water a minute being propelled by the pumps. This creates those perfect 10-feet barrels.
However, the series of Flowjam competitions at Wavehouse Sentosa will be utilizing the double FlowRider® instead. Although it is seen as a more basic version of the FlowBarrel®, it doesn’t mean it is half the fun! The double FlowRider® creates a safe, non-curling, endless wave that is endlessly fun to ride. 30,000 gallons of water per minute flow as fast as 20 mph (32 kmph) over a plastic surface, like a wrestling mat, to generate a thin, fast-moving sheet of water. Riders can slide down and ride up the wave surface, and carve turns, emulating the maneuvers of other board.
The first Flowjam competition saw both local and foreign surfers battle the waves, this included men and women, young and old. The upcoming competition is no exception with 7 different categories ranging from, Expert Flowboard to Junior Flowboard. The participants will be given a short 40 second time frame to impress the judges. They have 3 heats in each round to garner the highest score.
Come down to Wavehouse Sentosa to see surfers do a ‘bunny hop’ or an ‘ollie’! No idea what I’m talking about, then there is even more reason for you to come down and watch the pros do it. Entry into Wavehouse is FREE however we have 2 pairs of VIP tickets up for grabs! This ticket entitles you to free flow drinks and food from 2pm to 4pm during the day of the competition.
Or, if this is your thing, show us what you’ve got. Registration fees are $60 for the Expert division and $50 for the other divisions. If you want to take part in an additional division, it will only cost you an additional $20! Register after 6th August and there will be a late registering fee of $10. So what are you waiting for!
